Nvidia targets gamers with mobile GPUs

Components bring Crysis, Unreal Tournament 3 and Call of Duty 4 to laptops

Nvidia is hoping to cash in on the large number of graphics-intensive games expected to be sitting under Christmas trees this festive season.

The firm believes that games including Crysis, Unreal Tournament 3 and Call of Duty 4 are all sure bets to be at the top of the gift list this holiday season.

Nvidia will be teaming up with notebook manufacturers to get a number of PCs equipped with GPUs, such as its just-released GeForce 8800M, into gamers' hands.

The new GeForce 8800M GTX and GeForce 8800M are the company's latest units to support the new generation of DirectX 10 games.

Cervat Yerli, chief executive at games developer Crytek, said: "For gamers wanting to experience the advanced visual realism of Crysis the new GeForce 8800M powered machines are the ones to get."

The GeForce 8M Series GPUs also feature the Nvidia PureVideo HD engine capable of playing back HD-DVD, Blu-ray and HD movie downloads.

Notebooks with the new GPUs will soon be available from manufacturers worldwide including Alienware, Eurocom, Gateway, and Sager.
