There were double wins for God of War 2 and Okami, the only other multiple winners of the night.

God of War 2 took Best Technical Achievement and Best Story and Character, while Okami won for Best Artisitic Achievement and Best Original Score.

Bioshock on the Xbox 360 scooped Best Game, its only award of the night – although one more than Gears of War which was beaten in several categories.

Football Manager 2007 triumphed in the PC World Gamers Award, the only award to be voted for by the public.

Crackdown's win in the Action and Adventure category and Ragnarawk's award in the Bafta Ones to Watch group rounded out the list of winners.

Games legend Will Wright also received the Academy's Fellowship award.

Wright's work for more than 20 years in the industry has included Raid On Bungling Bay (1984), SimCity (1989), SimCity 2000 (1993), SimCity 4 (2003) and SimCity DS (2007), as well as for inspiring The Sims.
