He joins the BBC as head of digital media technology and will be responsible for delivering the next generation of the BBC iPlayer.

Rose will also be tasked with creating a unified embedded media experience across the BBC's online properties.

"During his six years with Kazaa Anthony has gained credit for his work on a host of impressive projects and patents, including P2P networks, DRM-based content publishing and social networking services," said a statement from the BBC.

Prior to joining Kazaa, Rose was vice president for technology at Sega in Australia.

The appointment was made by Erik Huggers, group controller of BBC future media and technology.
