LG unveils Viewty cameraphone

5.1-megapixel camera and 120fps video recording

Ian Williams

LG has unveiled its newest touch-screen cameraphone boasting a 5.1-megapixel camera that can record video at 120 frames per second, the highest ever for a mobile phone camera.

The Viewty offers what LG claims is a unique manual focus function, and a built-in image stabiliser.

Users can edit pictures on the phone as well as 'write' on them digitally using the 3in LCD screen and attached stylus. Pictures and video can be uploaded to the internet with the built-in YouTube and Flickr access.

An LG spokesman told vnunet.com that that company had "focused on design-oriented mobile phones" but that it is now time to "develop a feature-oriented product with a high technology design architecture".

The Viewty is based on technology from the high-end digital camera industry, and includes features such as ISO 800 and SmartLight technology to help create bright pictures indoors and at night.

The phone also packs in smartphone features such as a document viewer, DivX mobile profile and TV out.

The Viewty lacks Wi-Fi connectivity, but does include all other mobile connection features.

Users will be able to store content on around 100MB of built-in memory or on a microSD card.

The Viewty will be available in the UK from mid-October on all networks and from all major retailers.
