Google is planning to organise a series of ten developer events to further advertise its application programming interfaces (APIs) and developer tools.

The events will all take place on 31 May at locations around the world, including the US, UK, Germany and France.

Google is offering several APIs that allow third party developers to create services and so-called mash-ups using services like Google maps. A mash-up combines data from two sources to create a new service. An example is Twitter vision, which shows the geographic origin of new Twitter posts in real time.

The company also offers a toolkit to develop online applications as well as a Data API that allows developers to plug into services such as the Google Calendar or its online Spreadsheet and Document applications as well as the Google Base structured database.

"Developers are using Google's APIs and tools to build innovative web applications that we never dreamed of, and Google Developer Day is an opportunity for them to connect with one another, learn the latest techniques and have their questions answered by Google's developer product teams," said Google Vice President of Search Products and User Experience Marissa Mayer.

"It's also a chance for us to get feedback from the community and find ways to make our developer offerings even better."
