The Mozilla Corporation has released a Beta 2 version of its forthcoming Firefox 2.0 browser.

The second beta is intended to gather additional feedback while delivering enhancements and bug fixes to the Beta 1 released in July.

The next stage will be the launch of a Release Candidate 1, which is scheduled for 19 September.

Firefox 2.0 Beta 2 offers built-in protection against known phishing sites, and an integrated search option provides suggestions as users are typing for Google, Yahoo and Answers.com.

Other new features include a spell check for online forms such as those used for blogging services, and a facility to leave feedback.

The browser has fallen behind its original development schedule to be available by August. Mozilla expected a release by 24 October, but the project currently does not currently list a launch date.
