Wireless equipment vendor
Sierra Wireless
today announced that HP has
selected its HSDPA PCI Express Mini Card embedded modules to provide 3G
connectivity in the firm's forthcoming 6400 notebook PCs.
For non-GSM markets such as the US and Asia, the Sierra Wireless MC5720 EV-DO
PCI Express Mini Card embedded module will be incorporated in the HP Compaq 6400
notebook.
The incorporation of 3G into the 6400 units, which are due to launch later
this year, will allow mobile professionals to access email and corporate
information while on the go, including large attachments and data-intensive
online applications.
"The utility of business notebooks is increasingly being defined by their
ability to connect to email and the internet, and our collaboration with Sierra
Wireless is allowing customers to stay connected in more places at broadband
speeds," said Carol Hess-Nickels, director of commercial notebook marketing at
HP.
