Microsoft will not be developing a version of Media Player 10 for the Mac

Microsoft has confirmed that it will not be developing a version of its Media Player 10 for Apple users.

The company will instead rely on third-party developer Flip4Mac to provide a plug-in called Windows Media Components for existing QuickTime software. The plug-in is available free of charge here

"Microsoft will continue to offer Windows Media Player 9 for Macintosh users, but has no plans to provide future updates or product support for Media Player for Macintosh systems," said the company in a statement.

"We will still continue to make available the Windows Media Player 9 Series for Mac at the company's website here. "
