Apple iPod Nano 'not up to scratch'

Users flood message boards with complaints

Iain Thomson

Buyers of Apple's iPod Nano have been venting their frustration on the company's message boards about the poor build quality of the new music player.

Users are especially peeved that the screen appears to be so vulnerable to scratching. This makes viewing pictures, or using the calendar and address book, very difficult, according to the comments.

"I have treated mine like a king and it already has a few scratches etc," wrote Richard Spangler. "Apple could at least use the best Lucite they used in the previous models."

One thread on the discussion board has received 400 messages from other users with similar problems. A website about the problem has already been set up.

"I've had my Nano for a little over two weeks and it [became] scratched when I took off the plastic on the front," wrote Young Lim.

"At first I thought this was just a smudge, so I used my cotton t-shirt to try to rub it off, but that started to scratch it even more. I just felt very disappointed and betrayed by Apple."
