Music lovers were today offered the chance to cut the wires tethering them to
their iPods with newly developed wireless headphones for
the popular media players.
Logitech
said that its Wireless Headphones for iPod allows owners of the players to roam
as far as 30ft from the devices and not miss a beat once they have plugged in
the wireless adapter.
"Wireless headphones unleash people from their music player and remove the
nuisance of cords," said Ray Weikel, director of product marketing at Logitech's
Audio Business unit.
"No more untangling those earbuds when you pull your iPod out of the bag, or
managing the cords while trying to enjoy your music. We believe our wireless
headphones will be truly liberating for iPod owners."
Logitech's headphones feature integrated controls on the side of the ear
pieces, so that users can adjust the volume as well as track forwards,
backwards, play and pause their playlists.
The headphones, which work with any iPod with a dock connector on its base,
use Bluetooth 1.2 wireless technology with adaptive
frequency hopping to minimise interference.
They weigh 3.2 ounces and the wireless adapter, which connects to the iPod
through the headphone jack, weighs just over 1 ounce.
Rechargeable batteries, which play up to eight hours of music per charge, are
incorporated in the unit. According to Logitech, the product will begin shipping
in the US and Europe in July with a suggested retail price of $149.99.
