BT serves Wi-Fi courtside to tennis fans

Visitors to Stella Artois Championships can plug into wireless hotspot

Tennis fans attending this year's Stella Artois Championships will be able to surf the web and download documents at high speeds using a wireless broadband network at the Queen's Club in west London.

The event's organisers estimate that more than 52,000 visitors will have the opportunity to plug into the Wi-Fi hotspot supplied by BT Openzone. To access the system, visitors need a wireless local area network card to insert into their laptop.

BT wireless broadband chief executive Chris Clark said in a statement: "By working with major sporting events in the UK we are helping raise awareness of the benefits of Wi-Fi for internet users.

"It's quick and easy to use and has already made a big difference to business people who need to keep in touch with the office and their families while travelling."

Tournament media director Jolyon Armstrong said the deal was the first time that both fixed and wireless internet access had been offered at the event.
