Apple has unveiled a series of applications and tools for digital video editing, aimed at taking on Adobe and making video editing available to a bigger market.

The vendor has released its Final Cut Pro editing suite, Motion special effects tool, Xsan storage area network file system and Shake special effects suite.

Apple has also updated its DVD Studio Pro creation tool, to include high-definition film to MPEG-2 support.

Rob Schoeben, Apple's vice president of applications marketing, explained at the launch that it would be easy for high definition video editing to get stuck in the high end.

"We want to change the creative and production processes so that anyone can create professional quality results in the video and editing world," he said.
