Motorola and Opera sign second deal

Pair will deliver Opera browser on Motorola handsets

Robert Jaques

Web browser developer Opera Software and Motorola's Personal Communications Sector (PCS) have struck a licensing agreement to deliver Opera's web browser on Motorola handsets.

The agreement follows a related announcement last week in which the pair said they would deliver a joint offering to operators, consisting of Opera's full HTML browser and the Wap stack from Motorola.

This will provide desktop-like functionality and Wap integration on a mobile phone.

Ruchi Mangalik, director of the software portfolio at Motorola PCS, said in a statement: "We find Opera to be a great option for web browsing solutions for mobile handsets.

"With Opera's multi-platform capabilities we are able to support delivery to our customers of a seamless experience across various handsets."

Motorola can also make the Opera Platform available to its mobile operator customers, allowing them to integrate content directly with the main screen of a customer's handset.

All content can be dynamically updated over the air at any time, strengthening operator brand development and customer loyalty.
