Microsoft yesterday unveiled its first voice controlled software for Windows Mobile-based Pocket PC and Pocket PC Phone Edition devices.
Dubbed Microsoft Voice Command, the technology lets handheld computer and mobile phone users access services including contacts, calendar and digital music using voice commands.
The next-generation phonetic speech recognition technology is the result of 10 years' research, and does not rely on pre-recorded or standardised verbal commands.
Users are instead able to speak as they would normally, the company claimed.
In addition to hands free dialling and phone operation, Voice Command allows users to check calendar appointments, play music on Windows Media Player and launch Pocket PC applications.
