Douglas Adams lives on in last book

Hard drive unlocks new secrets to life, the universe and everything

The last unfinished novel of writer and geek hero, Douglas Adams, will be published next year along with other unseen works.

Titled A Salmon of Doubt, the unfinished book is the sixth episode in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series and will be released next May to mark the first anniversary of the cult writer's death.

According to a report in the Sunday Telegraph, Adams' widow, Jane Belson, and personal assistant, Sophie Astin, discovered the book on his computer. It is thought he had been working on it for around eleven years.

His agent Ed Victor is quoted as saying: "We have pored over Douglas's hard drive. There were so many different versions of the novel. He would take it and then revise it repeatedly, so there were many files."

A Salmon of Doubt will be published alongside other previously unseen writing, including magazine articles and lectures and even work from his Radio 4 projects.

The collection will also include the screenplay of Hitchhikers, which shot the novel and Adams into the stratosphere of fame when it was made into a BBC TV series.
