IBM has issued a patch for its z900 mainframe microcode which causes its flagship machines to crash.
Big Blue has played down the bug in the operating system of its leading mainframe, and there have been complaints from some IBM newsgroups that the company has not actually told users of its existence.
Certainly there is no mention of the bug on the IBM website.
vnunet.com understands that sales staff have been briefed about the glitch and field service staff have been told to install the patch.
The patch can be installed without needing to shut the 24x7 mainframe down. However, it isn't clear if the patch will not work without installing all other IBM patches that have been issued.
