Unwittingly, each of us have become a mini media library for our friends. As most of us have a huge DVD collection and some still purchase CDs, it’s all too easy for our friends or family to ask if they can borrow a DVD from your collection and you to soon forget where the disc has gone and who has borrowed your media.

The solution is a media library that will enable you to collect and store a record of all the books, CDs, DVDs and video games that you own. However, getting these in to a library isn’t easy. Luckily most items include a printed barcode which enables a retailer to scan to their system. This same barcode can be scanned by your webcam and the information extracted from an online site such as Amazon - which means you can quickly populate your new media library.

Delicious Library is a Mac-based media library system that’s been around for ages and has previously won an Apple design award. It enables you to do the above, plus more. For example, you can easily assign items to other users, so you can quickly see who has borrowed an item and for how long they’ve kept it at their place.

Delicious Library v2 is a major upgrade and is based around the Leopard operating system. There are many new features, including a facility to look for and share information with other users, so you can see their library. This means you can search and find a product you may want to borrow (note, we’re not condoning piracy - borrow, don’t copy) from their library.

The latest version now enables you to promote your collection online and sell old products, if required. There are many other new features.
