Before tabbed windows were added to web browsers, we had to open multiple separate windows in order to browse the Internet. This had advantages and disadvantages. You didn’t become lazy – two browser windows were often open at any one point in time and you simply used these windows to visit your favourite website. The disadvantage was that if you wanted to keep a particular Internet site open for reference purposes, you had to open another window to browser another site. Minimise these to your Task Bar and it wasn’t always so easy knowing which minimised window applied to a particular site.
Since tabbed windows became widespread, we’ve become rather lazy, opening multiple tabs to view different web pages. The big downside being that the more tabs you open, you have to then end up scrolling from left to right if you have more than, say, 10 tabs open at an one point in time.
The answer would be to reduce the size of the tabs to just the icon that represents each website, which means you can get more tabs across your browser. FaviconizeTab is a Firefox extension that enables to turn your wide tabs in to a tab showing each site icon.
