Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch models account for as much as one third of
worldwide mobile data traffic.
A recent report from mobile advertising specialist Admob said that the Apple
handsets accounted for 32 per cent of its worldwide mobile data requests during
October, a rise of seven per cent on the previous month.
In terms of smartphone web traffic, the iPhone alone accounted for a whopping
50 per cent of traffic.
Second to Apple on both lists was Nokia, which claimed 19.6 per cent of data
requests and 24 per cent of smartphone web traffic. Samsung was third and
Research In Motion seventh.
The iPhone and iPod were far more dominant in the UK markets, where Apple
made up 60.5 per cent of handset data requests and 74 per cent of smartphone web
traffic requests during October.
Researchers noted that Nokia maintained a strong position in emerging markets
such as India and Indonesia, where it has a sizeable lead over other smartphone
vendors.
