Tool helps small firms cope with Active Directory

WebDir SMB allows some update tasks to be delegated to users

Daniel Robinson

Imanami, a firm specialising in identity management, has unveiled software designed to help smaller businesses simplify the management of information in Active Directory by delegating certain tasks.

Available immediately, WebDir SMB provides small firms with an enterprise-class tool to reduce administrative costs and increase the accuracy of the information stored within Active Directory, according to Imanami.

Microsoft's directory service is widely used in large organisations for managing system, user and application settings, assigning policies and deploying software, but keeping the information contained within the structure can be time consuming for companies that may not have a large dedicated IT staff.

WebDir SMB lets an administrator delegate the management of contact and group information to the members of the workgroup itself, freeing up resources and increasing productivity while keeping directory information as up to date as possible, according to the firm.

"Making sure that user and group information is accurate is even more important in a highly dynamic small business, especially one that is moving from manual to automated processes," said Edward Killeen, vice president of sales and marketing at Imanami.

"WebDir SMB gives small businesses directory and group management solutions with an affordable price point lacking in this segment."

WebDir SMB is licensed at $249 (£150) per 50 seats, and comes with a 60-day money back guarantee.
