Unisys launches private cloud offering

New service could appeal to firms looking for more secure cloud options

IT software and services giant Unisys has extended the range of its cloud computing offerings to include a new private cloud service, as well as enhancements to its managed cloud offering.

The firm announced at the SYS-CON Cloud Computing Conference & Expo today that Unisys Secure Private Cloud Solution (SPCS) has been designed to appeal to firms looking to run mission-critical applications in a more secure cloud environment.

"Like our public cloud offering, Unisys SPCS goes a long way towards allaying the security concerns of enterprises and their customers," said Rich Marcello, president of technology, consulting and integration solutions at Unisys.

"Unisys SPCS presents chief information officers with a way to realise the full operational and economic advantages of public cloud computing on their own terms, in their own datacentres, and with extra measures of security for their organisations' and their customers' sensitive information."

The systems has been designed with ease-of-use and operation in mind, according to Unisys, enabling automated virtual provisioning and repurposing of IT resources on the fly, and providing automated resource tracking to facilitate the allocation of IT usage costs to specific groups.

Customers not wanting to monitor the infrastructure themselves can choose to do so via the Unisys Converged Remote Infrastructure Management Solution.

Users can also optionally choose to implement Unisys Stealth to enhance data protection by cloaking data from detection as it moves through the network, said Unisys.

The firm also announced enhancements to its public cloud offering, including support for Microsoft stacks such as IIS Web Server, .NET Application Server and SQL Server, and custom stacks such as IBM Websphere and Oracle.

Also announced was Unisys Secure Virtual Office as a Service, which provides access to standard office suites through hosted desktop services to boost worker productivity.
