LG's highly anticipated watchphone is due to land in the UK next week, but
will be exclusive to Orange.
The
LG-GD910
was
showcased
at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and features a scratch
resistant touch-screen interface and voice commands.
The first devices will go on sale from 9:00am on 27 August at Orange's
flagship store in Bond Street station in London. A few more will be made
available from the
Orange
online shop from mid-September.
Those put off by
rumours
of a £1,000 price tag will be relieved to hear that Orange's "exclusive"
price point will be half that, selling for £500 on a pay-as-you-go deal.
"The LG Touchscreen Watchphone is one of several 'future phones' we are
bringing to UK consumers this year," said Francois Mahieu, director of devices
at Orange UK.
"Being handmade, the device really is highly original and exclusively
limited, so you'll be the envy of all your friends if you're fortunate enough to
get your hands on one."
Although the concept is not new, previous models have been very bulky and
cumbersome. Competitors such as Hyundai have also unveiled
competing
watchphones in recent months which could create a new genre of mobile
device.
