Open
Text has released a new version of its web content management software,
featuring usability enhancements and deeper integration with the firm's
enterprise content management suite.
"With
Web
Solutions 10, we are bringing the full Web 2.0 user interface to the people
editing content within the company, and to the consumers of this content," said
Jens Rabe, Open Text web solutions vice president, at the product's launch.
The deeper integration will allow information to be drawn out of a company's
document management system at a "more granular level" to deliver a more personal
experience to web users, according to Andy Bellinger, European marketing manager
at Open Text.
Bellinger explained that, when business users uploaded content to the old
system, it was not easy to specify who could see the content. The system also
did not adapt well enough to the specifications to give web users a seamless
experience at the front end.
Web Solutions 10 now allows a company to launch a new product, and give
different details to customers, internal business users and the public, using
the same web content management portal.
For example, Bellinger suggested that customers visiting the site will have
access to information on the product's new features, while business users will
be offered educational material and the public will be greeted with an interface
which has details that everyone is allowed to see.
Those visiting the site will see no "white spaces of information", Bellinger
said.
Usability enhancements to Web Solutions 10 include allowing business users to
upload content using shorter workflows with fewer clicks, minimal pop-up windows
and browser refreshers.
The addition of drag-and-drop capabilities will also increase the
personalisation of the business user's interface, according to the firm.
Open Text said that the productivity boost was delivered by the new
generation of Open Text SmartEdit which is now powered by rich internet
application technology.
Web Solutions 10 is based on the latest Microsoft .Net technology to provide
optimised memory capabilities, and supports Microsoft SQL 2008 and Windows
Server 2008.
