Last year, I reviewed Orange's San Francisco Android handset on V3.co.uk, and I was so impressed with the value for money the device represents, I actually went out and bought one.
That was just before Christmas, but now the handset has just started to exhibit an unusual problem.
One day last week when I went to use the phone, I found I couldn't unlock it. The handset hadn't crashed, as the screen lit up after a 'wake-up' press of the power key, but it simply wouldn't respond to any touch-screen input.
For those unfamiliar with Android, it turns off the screen after a period of inactivity, and to use the phone again you have to wake it up and unlock it using an on-screen slider control. No response from the touch-screen meant I couldn't unlock the phone.
After removing the battery, replacing it and then re-starting the phone, everything was back to normal. However, the problem has re-occurred intermittently ever since, but fortunately hasn't happened when I've needed to answer a call - yet.
I've tried filing a tech support query with Orange via their web site, but so far there has been no response from them regarding this puzzling bug.
Have any other San Francisco owners had a similar experience, or even those using other Android-based handsets?
UPDATE: The touch-screen issue soon reached the point where I could not use the handset at all. Orange has now replaced it for a new one, which hopefully will not develop the same problem.
