Signs of an imminent decision by the European Commission in the Sun Oracle case grew stronger today, after Oracle's UK user group erroneously issued a notice to the press announcing the acquisition had received EU approval.
According to the release Ronan Miles, chairman of UKOUG, had traveled to Brussels and in collaboration with Ian Abramson, president of the US-based Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG), presented a joint front to support the deal.
However, the UKOUG later said the release was issued to the press in error, and was a draft of several anticipating the EU decision.
The assistant who sent out the emails could not be reached. Although she is working from home today there is no way of contacting her, according to a UKOUG spokesman. The spokesman could also not give details of Miles' whereabouts.
While V3.co.uk is not disputing the fact that Oracle's UK user group issued the release in error, the fact that it is gearing up for a statement of some kind could indicate that we're likely to hear something from the Commission sooner than the 27 January deadline.
