Apple's tablet slated for 27 January

In a move that should surprise no-one Apple has started issuing invites for an event taking place on 27 January at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts theatre in San Francisco offering those in attendance the chance to see its "latest creation".

The event has been one of the industry's worst kept secrets for months now and rumours have been flying that the event will see the launch of Apple's new tablet device, possibly to be called the iSlate if a web site by that name registered by Apple is anything to go by, which it probably is.

Despite everyone in the industry expecting the event to herald the official unveiling of a tablet device it is likely the announcement will still send ripples of excitement through the tech world and could have spin-off benefits for other companies.

While Apple products are always greeted with fanboy fervour that other companies must secretly envy, for those looking at the tablet market as a growth area the move by Apple would suggest the firm has the confidence that consumers will splash out on such devices, opening up the possibility for other vendors to supply similar lower-cost devices to the market.

However, it should be remembered the above is all speculation, although based on some compelling links of information, and when we asked Apple if they had any more information or statements regarding the event they declined to comment. Nothing new there then.

This is a great advance in portable computing. If Apple can revolutionize this the way they did with the iPhone, it will be a radical leap forward. This is the core of Apple's success - innovation and creating products from the user's experience - not from the perspective of a programmer. Curtis

Forgive me if this seems pestering, but for all we know, Apple may not be announcing a Tablet. Misleading people into entering this site with that sort of guarantee is unprofessional, especially considering the author of this post took it all back in the last paragraph. Does the world need a tablet, or is our current infatuation with touch screens driving us to create too much want and desire. I am all for this product succeeding, but unless Apple can fix the inherent flaw with tablets/slates (typing on them comfortably), it will simply be a large media player that happens to be capable of running other apps.

I think it's only a "worst kept secret" if the tablet is actually announced or proven to exist. So far, it is still a rumor.

Well Apple has been inovative taking things to the next level.Let us see what they do with the islate, a lot of industry players would like to see what they do better than others before them

You should adjust your headline. It implies that Apple is, for certain, announcing a tablet on 1/27. We don't know that yet, it's all just speculation. It's irresponsible to report it as though it's truth, even if you're only doing so in a headline.
