O2 launches new iPhone tariffs

O2 has responded to increasing competition among network providers to offer the iPhone, by launching a range of new tariffs.

Among these are SIM-only plans which could appeal to those users at the end of their current contracts. These start at £15 per month for 300 minutes, unlimited UK texts, data & Wi-Fi on a 12-month SIM only contract, or from £20 per month on a 30-day rolling contract, said O2.

Tariffs offering unlimited calls, texts and data start at £45.

"Customers' habits are changing, with more texts being sent and data being used than ever before. We have listened to our customers and introduced a range of new tariffs with unlimited calls, texts and data offering real value for money," said O2 marketing director Sally Cowdry.

"We have also introduced a new £2 per day Internet Tethering Bolt On as we know our iPhone customers want to snack when they are using their iPhone as a modem."

Late last year O2 lost its exclusive right to sell the iPhone to UK consumers, although it remains to be seen whether these new deals will help it boost its numbers.

Rival Vodafone has been trying to compete on quality of service rather than price, virtually ever since O2 boss Ronan Dunne was forced to apologise to customers over the poor performance of its London network, blaming data heavy handsets such as the iPhone.
