UCIF aims to improve unified comms interoperability

  • Tweet this

A new industry body has been formed with the aim of promoting unified communications and reducing the barriers to entry in the space.

Details of the not-for-profit Unified Communications Interoperability Forum are scarce, in fact, we couldn't even find a web site at the time of writing, however it seems the body will broadly do what it says on the tin: promote interoperability in the space.

What is also clear is the four founding members: Juniper Networks, Microsoft, Polycom and Logitech/LifeSize. Other firms involved include Brocade, Broadcom and Siemens Enterprise Communications.

Rob Scott, worldwide general manager of the HP Halo visual collaboration business, said it was his goal to enable the high end UC system to interoperate seamlessly with other standards-based video products.

"Customers want UC deployments that provide a consistent user experience across multiple devices and platforms which can bring new productivity to their teams," he added.

"The forum's members will work together to enable interoperability across the UC stack - including voice, video, instant messaging and presence."
