Nokia will be kicking itself after a new poll it set up on The Nokia Blog indicated that over two-thirds of its customers plan to or have already jumped ship to Android.
Only a measly 35 per cent of respondents said that they would stick valiantly by Nokia's side. Just over 40 per cent said they plan to go while 23 per cent said they had already defected to the Google platform.
While the poll has only attracted 313 respondents so far, it is still an indication that Nokia is not the all-conquering manufacturer it once was.
While the Finnish firm is still officially king of handsets, the reality is that it is being caught by Apple, Google and Samsung at a pace that would impress Usain Bolt.
Many Nokia customers have expressed their concern over the results in comments.
"It's pretty depressing really, it seems that Android is getting all the good will at the moment," James Burland wrote.
And it appears that Nokia's dithering with the N8 has already lost it customers.
"I ditched Nokia for Android last year after owning the N97 for six months. That phone sealed the deal for me with Nokia," Julian, a former self confessed Nokia fanboy wrote.
"I decided to move on because I was tired of Nokia's constant lack of innovation and ability to move forward to compete more aggressive with other operating systems.
Face it, Nokia's dying. Time to jump ship," he added.
There remains a flicker of hope for Nokia though, with a few customers loyal enough to wait for the manufacturer to get the formula right.
"Well, I'm certainly not going for a Symbian based device, but I also do not like the way Android is 'managed'. So I'll wait for a MeeGo device," Ronald Van Kuijk noted.
But Clinton Jeff sums up the pressure that diehard Nokia fans must be feeling.
"I'm waiting for the N8 personally. But Android's really, reaaally tempting," he commented.
