With scandal rife in the telecoms industry following the accounting irregularities at US giant WorldCom, and investors considering an investigation into KPNQwest, the credibility and integrity of a sector that many already viewed with cynicism is looking increasingly rocky.
The financial world is still reeling from the collapse of Enron and the conviction of Andersen for obstruction of justice, and the WorldCom and KPNQwest announcements have sent the market into more turmoil.
