No doubt many of you have been out and about only for your mobile or PDA to die. This isn't a problem if you happen to have your charger on you, and can find an electrical outlet to plug into. However, if you do you are then tethered to the one location until your device is charged.
The Electric Fuel Instant Power Charger solves this problem by allowing you to charge your device while on the move from the comfort of your own pocket. The charger comes in the form of a pocket-sized cartridge which is activated when the PowerCartridge makes contact with air. It draws oxygen from the atmosphere through holes in its casing.
This works because inside the cartridge are four high energy zinc air battery cells which, when exposed to oxygen, react to generate electricity. One cartridge will allow up to three full charges of your device, and you can continue to use it while it charges.
Each pack comes in airtight packaging and contains a disposable PowerCartridge, a SmartCord for connecting it to your phone, and a resealable pouch for storing the PowerCartridge between uses. Kept in its pouch, a PowerCartridge will last for up to three months without loss of power.
Charging is completed in approximately two hours, and with the PowerCartridge being so small and light - about half the size of a floppy disk and weighing less than 3oz ? it's possible to walk around with it in your pocket while charging. The SmartCord is reuseable, and when the PowerCartridge has exhausted its power simply purchase a replacement.
Compatible with most of the popular makes of mobile phones and PDAs, there is sure to be a Power Charger for your device. Supported products include mobile phones from Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola, Siemens, Samsung and Phillips, among others; and PDAs from Palm, Handspring and Hewlett Packard.
Also available from Electric Fuel is an Instant Power Battery for mobile phones, which replaces your standard battery and provides up to 16 hours of talk time or 25 days of standby. See their website (below) for more details.
In the case of a mobile phone, you could simply purchase a spare rechargeable battery. However, this has to be constantly recharged and will lose power for every week it is left idle. It purely depends on how often you use your mobile.
The price quoted is for the mobile phone version of the PowerCharger. The PDA model will set you back £14.99, with the replacement cartridges costing £4.99 for either device.
