Pentaho releases Instaview big data analytics visualisation tool

06 Nov 2012

Business intelligence firm Pentaho has updated its platform with mobile enhancements and big data visualisation tools.

The Pentaho BI 4.8 update offers users a new Instaview tool that allows data analysts to visualise and explore diverse data without needing the support of an IT expert or additional big data visualisation tools.

Instaview connects with any model of Hadoop or No SQL database, including MongoDB, Cassandra and HBase.

"Instaview is about making big data analytics easy and quick. Normally you need data scientists or engineers to analyse data that has been stored in Hadoop or No SQL databases," Davy Nys, Pentaho European vice president told V3.

"With this updated data integration platform Instaview allows users to just select a template for data access, select the data they want to analyse, automate the data modelling process and then perform the analysis."

The Pentaho update also sees the launch of the firm's first mobile application, which allows users to make decisions on the go.

Nys said the application is currently only available for the iPad but will be available for other mobile platforms in the future.

"It's one of the first mobile BI applications that allow users to actively analyse data rather than just consume it," added Nys.

"Our strategy going forward is to help organisations that want to use business analytics as a straightforward solution, people that want to embed analytics in the cloud, do everything around big data."

The Pentaho BI suite is available in three licensing arrangements. The basic offering offers businesses reporting and dashboard capabilities, the professional offering gives businesses access to the analytics and mobile capabilities, and the enterprise edition consists of the Instaview tool.

The Pentaho licensing agreements are all based on unlimited numbers of user.
