HP has updated its Unified Functional Testing (UFT) platform to simplify the development and testing of enterprise applications.

The company said the update would allow developers to manage test components of hybrid applications which combine elements from both on-premise and web-based applications which require a modular structure, like that of a service-oriented architecture.

The update will include new interface and management tools which will help developers better organise and present modules as well as improved integration with the HP Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) platform.

Kelly Emo, HP software product marketing director, told V3 that the update will help keep the company's testing platform in line with the shift many companies are making towards new application development and deployment methods.

"They are looking at it from a business process perspective of how can they make changes to the way their apps function," Emo said.

"That is driving them to re-architect into sharable pieces."

HP is also looking to add mobile testing components into the UFT platform. The company said it will be partnering with testing specialist Perfecto Mobile to develop a line of mobile testing environments for UFT.

By partnering with Perfecto, the company will be able to equip developers with a set of virtual testing environments for all mobile platforms, allowing applications to be fine tuned for various devices, operating systems and screen sizes through both public and private cloud environments.

"The cost of maintaining your mobile device lab can be really crazy," Emo explained.

"With Perfecto Mobile Device Cloud you have access to the latest and greatest each time."
