Intel has unveiled more than two dozen new additions to its Xeon E3 and E5 processor lines in order to increase its offerings for both large and small enterprises.
The company said that the 28 models would seek to expand on the E5 server line while also extending the E3 workstation platform.
The rollout includes eight processors for the Xeon E5-4600 line. Designed for two and four socket server boards, the chips sport up to eight processor cores and have been designed to offer higher density with increased memory capacity.
The chips will also support PCIe 3.0 connectivity and the Intel Turbo Boost optimisation platform.
"Companies today are increasingly dependent upon IT to deliver innovative products and services to customers," said Intel datacentre infrastructure group vice president Boyd Davis.
"Our new products feature the flexibility, value and performance that businesses demand in a market that is ever less tolerant of compromise."
In the small and medium-sized business market, Intel is pitching its E5-2400 line. The nine new chips will boast improved performance and hardware density while also offering improved energy efficiency and performance per watt.
Meanwhile, the E3-1200 chips will target the low-end server and high-performance workstation markets.
Designed primarily for low-end systems and microserver applications, the E3 chips will be Intel's lowest-power Xeon server models and will also sport 3.6 times higher performance from previous generation rack servers.
The new chips build on an E5 Xeon line which was first unveiled in March of this year.
Intel claimed that its E5 line, which is designed for platforms used to run big data and cloud computing tools, can boost performance and throughput while improving energy efficiency.
