Corel ships WordPerfect Office X6 with e-book publishing capability

Corel has made available the latest release of its WordPerfect Office suite, adding a number of novel features including e-book publishing and Bates numbering, useful for the legal profession.

Available immediately to download from Corel's website, WordPerfect Office X6 comprises the core WordPerfect, Quattro Pro and Presentations applications, which are compatible with Microsoft Office file formats as well as older WordPerfect templates and macros that customers may still have.

WordPerfect Office is popular with users in the legal profession, a legacy that dates back to the original WordPerfect word processor application.

In recognition of this, WordPerfect Office X6 adds Bates Numbering, an electronic version of the manual stamping traditionally used in fields such as law and medicine, which provides a unique incremental number on each page in important documents, for identification purposes.

"With WordPerfect Office X6, we listened to our community and focused on continuing to deliver the unique, industry-leading capabilities that they depend on to get the job done," said Corel director for productivity, Peter Hanschke.

"We've also introduced new capabilities and adapted the suite intelligently to respond to the changing environment and needs of our loyal users."

Also new in this release is an eBook publisher tool, which makes it easy for users to lay out a document and publish it in MOBI format, suitable for uploading to Amazon.com and being distributed on the Kindle e-book device.

WordPerfect Office X6 also adds multiple monitor support, enabling users to work on several documents at the same time across multiple screens.

For mobile users, Corel has also added a version of its WordPerfect Document Viewer for Android devices, enabling users to open and view WordPerfect email attachments and downloaded files on Android smartphones and tablets.

A version for the iPhone and iPad is already available.

Document Viewer for Android supports devices with Android version 2.3 or above, and will be available on from the Android Market from 4 May.

Corel WordPerfect Office X6 is available in Standard and Pro versions, with the Standard version priced at £282, or £138 as an upgrade.

Volume licences are also available.
