Asus denies Wi-Fi problems in Transformer Prime tablet

Asus has moved to quash concerns about the Wi-Fi performance on its newly launched Transformer Prime tablet and has offered customers a full refund or extended warranty if they are unhappy.

"After extensive checks, we can confirm that no units have been supplied to the UK with a known Wi-Fi issue. Any customers experiencing Wi-Fi issues specifically are advised to contact our support hotline on 0870 1208 340," the firm said on the Official Asus Blog.

"Any customers who have purchased a Transformer Prime TF201 and are dissatisfied with the performance of the GPS module are advised to return the unit to their point of purchase for a full refund as per standard consumer rights that apply in the UK."

Asus also confirmed that customers who keep their device will get a six-month extension on their warranty, increasing it to 18 months. To extend the warranty, users are advised to contact the same support telephone number above.

The Transformer Prime was launched on 12 January in the UK and is the first tablet to ship with Nvidia's quad-core Tegra 3 processor. At CES 2012, Asus also confirmed that it would be the first tablet to run the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

This isn't the first time Asus has had to clarify issues surrounding the Prime. There were concerns about the poor GPS performance of the device and Asus stopped promoting the feature as part of the specification, as it could not match the functionality of a "professional GPS device".

Disappointingly, Asus has also gone on record as stating that the full-HD version of the Transformer Prime (TF700), will not be available in the UK until after June and has yet to confirm pricing.
