Las Vegas: LG Electronics has kicked off its 2012 campaign with a set of announcements at the CES conference.

The company outlined products ranging from 3D TV and display models with virtualised smartphones for the enterprise space and smart appliances.

Headlining the 2012 line will be an expansion of the company's OLED 3D TV line. The 55in model will offer a case thickness of just 4mm and will weigh 7.5kg, allowing LG to lay claim to the world's thinnest and lightest OLED display.

Additionally, LG is expanding its Cinema 3D TV line. The flagship display line will grow to scale up from 55in and 60in models to 72in and 84in ultra definition offerings. The sets will support LG's Magic Remote platform, which will be adding voice recognition and wheel scrolling navigation capabilities.

2012 will also see the introduction of the L9 chipset. Designed by LG for use in its TV displays, the chipset will support a dual-core ARM CPU, along with a quad-core GPU chip for improved 3D performance.

For the enterprise space, LG is extending its smartphone line to include support for the VMware Horizon platform. The company's Revolution LTE handset will feature full virtualisation support, allowing a single handset to run separate user instances for personal and enterprise use.

LG believes the platform will offer a solution to consumerisation challenges and help IT staff secure enterprise mobility platforms.

"This smartphone enables two Android operating systems on a smartphone device," said LG president and chief technology officer Dr. Scott Ahn.

"Employees can now maintain privacy and control over the personal side, while enterprises are able to enforce IT protocols."

The company plans to integrate both the 3D TV and handset models over the course of 2012.
