LAS VEGAS: 3M unveiled a 46in projected capacitive touch screen prototype designed to showcase the scalability of touch screen technology. The device is capable of supporting 20 distinct touch points, which is expected to be expanded to 60 when it enters final production.
The interface is designed to be used by retailers and restaurants, but could also make an appearance in the education sector.
A typical use case would be in car showrooms where a customer would use the display to chose the colour of the car or view different interiors, for example. 3M plans to take this into production in 2012. Pricing is yet to be confirmed.
