Canon has unveiled a new high-end projector as part of its Installation Range that features 360-degree projection capabilities and can produce a picture up to 600in in size.

The Xeed WUX5000 device is designed for use in the retail, leisure, education and corporate industries, Canon explained, and is the first projector from the firm to offer 5,000 lumens brightness.

The firm said this means there is minimal reduction in brightness even when projecting images from a maximum distance of 48.5 metres.

The projector features a 1920x1200 resolution and can be connected up to devices via DVI, HDMI or VGA connectors while images can be projected between 40in and 600in in size.

Canon offers three different lenses - a standard zoom lens, suitable for most small environments, a telephoto zoom lens for larger environments and a wide single-focus lens for rear-projection applications.

Furthermore, the lenses are interchangeable with the previous device in the series, the WUX4000.

There is also the option to carry out 360-degree projections, which makes it ideal for use within museums, visitor centres and auditoriums, Canon explained.

The lamp is designed to be as energy efficient as possible, offering a lifespan of 3,000 hours in Quiet Mode, and it can be replaced if necessary too.

Additionally, there is a motorised lens shift that allows the projector to be repositioned using either the projector's control panel or the remote control handset, to allow for one person installation.

The Canon Xeed WUX5000 will be available across Europe from March 2012, with pricing expected to be around £4,000.

The manufacturer also noted that a Medical version of the device will be launched later in the year that will allow images to be sent using the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standard.
