Adobe has released a port of its Reader PDF-viewing tool for Apple's iOS platform.
The company said the update would allow iPhone and iPad users to view PDF files on their Apple devices. It is being offered free of charge for download through the App Store service.
Adobe said the tool will support both unencrypted files and password-protected encrypted PDF files. Reader will also support PDF Portfolio files and the LifeCycle Rights Management DRM protocol.
The company said Reader will also integrate with Apple's iOS AirPrint service, allowing users to print files from their devices wirelessly.
Reader for iOS will require iPhone 3GS or later running either iOS 4.2.5 or the newly-released iOS 5. All versions of the iPad are supported.
The release comes as Adobe looks to move beyond a series of high-profile run-ins with Apple over the availability of its products on iOS. Since the launch of the first iPhone model, Apple has blocked Adobe's Flash platform from iOS, citing compatibility and performance issues.
The release also comes as Apple continues to log record sales figures for the most recent version of the iPhone. The company said the iPhone 4S had racked up more than four million sales in its first 72 hours on the market.
