AUSTIN: Dell has unveiled a number of enhancements to its encryption, virtualisation and storage portfolios, with the aim of securing data and making access for SMBs more efficient.
The Dell Data Protection/Encryption Enterprise offering is designed to address all the security needs of small businesses.
One of the key features will be Full Volume Encryption, which will offer enterprise users military-grade security in the form of US Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 Level 3 certification.
Meanwhile, the External Media feature will enable users to protect detachable storage, including USB, 1394, eSata, optical, external hard drives, as well as SD and xD media cards.
Admins will be able to set policies and users can also retain unencrypted personal information, such as family photos, while any corporate information copied remains encrypted.
Data Centric Encryption, External Media and Bitlocker Manager for Dell Data Protection Encryption Enterprise Edition are available today. Full Volume Encryption is expected to be made available later in the year.
The encryption service will work with selected Dell Latitude laptops, OptiPlex desktops and Dell Precision workstations. Users will be able to manage all features from a single console, the firm said.
Additionally, Dell unveiled the DX6000G Storage Compression node, which will be available from 18 October. Using the the firm's DX Object Storage Platform and software, users will be able to compress data by up to 90 per cent. This will free up resources and help enterprises reduce expenditure on data that is not accessed regularly.
The firm also said that its Virtual Desktop will be available via the cloud and that Compellent storage and Force10 networking capabilities will be integrated into its vStart virtualisation configurations starting in 2012.
"There is a big focus on services and end-to-end solutions. We find innovative solutions and these help to solve the biggest pain points that customers have," said Michael Dell, founder and chief executive of Dell.
