Kingston has released a military grade USB 2.0 drive designed to help enterprises and governments keep confidential data secure as more employees work remotely.
Key features of the DataTraveler 6000 include Federal Information Processing Standard 140-2 Level 3 validation, 256-bit encryption and the need for a complex password.
Passwords must include three out of four specified characteristics - lower and uppercase letters together with characters and/or numbers - and the DT6000 locks down and destroys the encryption key if the password is entered incorrectly 10 times.
Data is stored using 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard hardware-based encryption in XTS mode, and AutoRun can be disabled.
The drive has read speeds of 11MB/s and write speeds of 5MB/s, and comes with a tamper proof and waterproof titanium-coated stainless steel case.
Kingston offers the drive in 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB variations, starting at £58 and rising to £155 with a five-year warranty.
Jim Selby, manager of European product marketing at Kingston, claimed that the DT6000 provides peace of mind for any organisation that allows staff to work remotely with sensitive data.
"Using non-secure USB drives makes organisations vulnerable to data loss and breaches that can affect the company's credibility with its employees, customers and partners," he said.
"The DT6000 is the most secure USB Flash drive available and will meet the most stringent corporate or government requirements."
