Network management firm Visual Network Systems has updated its OmniPoint Element tool for monitoring the performance of cloud-hosted applications to include support for virtual environments.

The software allows businesses or cloud providers to assess network performance so that they can talk to the relevant partners, demonstrate where the fault occurs and identify where responsibility lies if it persists.

OmniPoint Element 7 provides metrics on bandwidth use, mean opinion scores for real-time and back-in-time call quality on VoIP applications, and traffic patterns.

Visual Network Systems marketing director Dave Ball told V3 that the update is designed to help the growing number of small and medium sized companies using virtualised cloud deployments.

"As more businesses use a hybrid mix of cloud systems and on-premise hardware the ability to gain insights into the network, to ensure cloud providers are providing the service levels they promise, is vital," he said.

"Many businesses have to host certain data on-premise but still want to use cloud-hosted applications, so offering the ability to gain insights, or giving cloud providers the ability to demonstrate their connectivity levels, is ideal."

OmniPoint Element can be used on systems including VMWare, Cisco's Unified Computing System Express and Riverbed's Steelhead.

Version 7 is available from Monday and is free for existing OmniPoint Element customers. New customers will pay $1,300 per licence per year.
