Yahoo search redesign

Yahoo has revamped its search results pages to mimic the the simplistic design first introduced by Google.

The ailing internet firm has made changes to its web, multimedia and vertical results pages, introducing automatic tabs, filters and deeper integration with Facebook.

The automatic tabs appear below the search box, offering access to content from the web, or the ability to narrow searches to images, video, news, blogs, finance and sports. The filters on the left, meanwhile, can be used to sort results by time and related searches.

Image searching has also been improved to offer deeper Facebook integration, providing more images and pictures from public profiles and fan pages.

The changes aim to unify search experiences across web, multimedia and vertical search results pages, and have been based on user feedback, according to a blog post from the Yahoo search team.

"We are continuously making new improvements and looking for even more ways to make Yahoo search better for you. Keep checking back in on the Search blog, as more changes are planned for the coming weeks," the team said.

The changes can be seen at search.yahoo.com, and the firm is encouraging further feedback.

However, it remains to be seen what benefits these changes will bring, as Yahoo's future has been thrown into disarray in the past week.

Chief executive Carol Bartz was sacked by Yahoo chairman Roy Bostock for failing to turn the company around and take the fight to chief rival Google, and reports suggest that Yahoo may be bought out by a competitor or that Asian investors may step in to rescue the company.
