Old Street roundabout in east London

V3 headed to Old Street to quiz five local start-ups about the Tech City area, and to get a first-hand account of working in what David Cameron hopes will become London's Silicon Valley.

We met Huddle chief executive and co-founder Alastair Mitchell, Yammer EMEA head of professional services Mike Grafham, Moo chief executive and founder Richard Moross, Caped Koala chief executive Neil Gallagher, TechHub chief executive and founder Elizabeth Varley, Mixcloud co-founder Nikhil Shah, and SoundCloud business development president Dave Haynes. See the video here.

This week the start-ups have been featured in a series of reports, videos and opinion pieces on why they set up in London's East End, and how they see the area developing.

We finish the series with a less serious Q&A with the start-ups to offer a more personal feel of the area's character.

Where do you get your coffee in the mornings?
MITCHELL AND GRAFHAM: Shoreditch Grind.
MOROSS: There's a great coffee machine downstairs. Otherwise there's the Taylor Street Baristas not too far away, which does bloody expensive coffee but it is bloody good.
GALLAGHER: Benugo.
SHAH: Typically Benugo. I was quite upset to find out they have some sort of discount scheme for regular customers and I've not been invited to join the party. And it's usually a chamomile tea.
HAYNES: There's a great little mobile coffee van on Old Street between our office and the station. The coffee is great and the guy is always really friendly. I can highly recommend it.

How much is a cup?
MITCHELL: Good question. Probably around £2.20.
GRAHAM: I order a flat white for around £2.
MOROSS: It's about £2.75 for a flat white.
GALLAGHER: It's just over £2 but TechHub members get a 20 per cent discount.
HAYNES: My usual order is a latte. I think it's £1.40.

Where do you go for lunch?
VARLEY: I normally get a sandwich from one of the chains like Eat or Pret, but I'll sometimes head down to Whitecross market.
GRAFHAM: Whitecross market is great as there's a big street full of stands. The best is the dessert stand. It may be unhealthy but it's excellent!
MOROSS: Whitecross market.
SHAH: Whitecross Street. Where else?
GALLAGER: Often I just go to Benugo again, although there is a great café five minutes away that we all call the 'winter warmer'. It makes a great dinner in a sandwich that you can get for cheap, like for £5.
HAYNES: BLT is great, which offers delicious wraps, carvery, soups and other delights. I also like Keu, a place specialising in Vietnamese bahn mi. Try the pork and lemongrass. Of course, I also head down to Whitecross market, mostly in the spring and summer. You'll probably run into about five people you know each time you go.

How about for after-work drinks?
MOROSS: The King's Head.
GALLAGHER: The Queen across the road. Sometimes I also take part in the Silicon drinks night, which takes place every Friday from 6.30pm in the area somewhere.
SHAH: In the office is usually the most popular, but otherwise Camp, William Blake, or some street corner in the summer sunshine.
HAYNES: My favourite would be The Book Club. As well as the great space, mismatched furniture and ping-pong table, they host some great events in the basement most evenings - most notably the Future Human series.
