Celebrities have been quick to exploit Twitter, and have been a driving force in the adoption of the medium and using it to build their support.

That said, some of the famous crowd make very poor tweeters. Far too many seem to rely on corporate officers to take their messages online rather than doing it themselves. Some of that no doubt goes on in the list below, but it's less than most.

What we've gathered here is a list of the celebrities who cover the technology world, or at least show a positive interest. Some are favourites of the technology crowd (and I'm willing to bet adorn the wall of a server room or two) but there is also real interest and commitment to the IT industry in many of these people.

Some poke fun at the profession, others invest and take a more active role, but all are interested in the topic and willing to share their views.

Top 10 Technology Celebrities

Graham Linehan @Glinner
Linehan is the most talented comedian you've never heard of. He's been a key player in Father Ted and Black Books, and the driving force behind The IT Crowd.

He's almost never in front of the camera, and looks strangely out of place when he is. But as a comic writer on Twitter he takes some beating, crafting little pieces of brilliance, as well as some thought-provoking posts. Not least of these was his successful attempt to subvert the medium itself for an experiment.

When Osama Bin Laden was killed, Linehan decided to start a rumour that among the videos found by US raiders was a set of The IT Crowd episodes. With just a few tweets an internet meme was started and got through to his non-technical family. Truly the man understands the benefits, and limitations, of the medium.

Lady Gaga @ladygaga
Lady Gaga is the first person to break the 10 million follower mark on Twitter and she's also heavily into technology.

The singer has been very quick to link herself to the industry, showing up at CES last year to promote Monster cables and Polaroid. This year she was back again and packed out a large chunk of one pavilion with the launch of her own brand of camera, printer and glasses with embedded displays.

When she's not promoting technology, Lady Gaga has found time to address the luminaries at Google and tweets regularly on topics as diverse as her many outfits.
