Red Hat has started preview distribution of JBoss Application Server 7 (AS7), which the company says is dramatically faster to load, easier to deploy and much less memory intensive.

JBoss AS7 boots up to 10 times faster than previous versions, and includes full Oracle-approved integration with Java EE6 Web Profile certification, the firm said.

The new software allows easier deployment of cloud systems via the middleware stack, and memory use has been scaled down to reduce the hardware load needed to run the system.

"Developers have more options for creating and delivering applications than ever before, and the productivity enhancements offered by JBoss AS7 reflect how the day-to-day lives of developers have evolved," said Mark Little, senior director of engineering for Red Hat's middleware business.

"JBoss Community designed JBoss AS7 to meet developers' requirements today, whether they are using Java Enterprise Edition or building the next mobile application."

The software is currently available only to JBoss Community members during a six-month testing period before its full release next year as part of JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6.

"As web application and Java developers seek modernised, flexible platforms to create dynamic applications, they require the latest advances and standards support for faster development and enhanced productivity," said Craig Muzilla, vice president of middleware business at Red Hat.

"This release represents a significant milestone in our strategy to deliver new products and services that adapt to the rapidly changing technology paradigm, while taking advantage of the continuum of development taking place in the JBoss Community."
