Security vendor AEP Networks has updated its Secure Application Access Gateway product to support thin client platforms from HP and Wyse, enabling customers to benefit from the flexibility and cost savings these increasingly popular technologies can offer.

AEP Networks argued that businesses looking to migrate from their legacy desktop platforms are increasingly attracted to thin client technology in order to avoid expensive licence upgrades.

As well as saving money on licences, firms can also benefit from smaller bandwidth requirements, lower power consumption and retention of hardware which would otherwise be swapped out with an OS upgrade, said AEP.

"We're speaking to a number of large organisations across the world all operating in very different markets, and every organisation tells us the same thing: they absolutely have to cut costs whilst at the same time improving the user experience and offering a high level of secure access," said AEP chief technology officer Mark Darvill.

"It's not enough to restrict access to critical applications and confidential sensitive data from certain machines. Instead businesses need to be assured that they can deliver the highest level of security for every machine that can access corporate applications including PCs, thin clients and personal devices such as iPads,"

Secure Application Access Gateway is a browser-based portal providing secure access to any apps from any network, the vendor explained.

It uses endpoint fingerprinting technology to ensure that device and employee are cleared to access the applications they want by checking for compliance with enterprise security policy.

If a session is terminated owing to a user logging out or being timed out, all cache data is deleted, boosting security further.
