Microblogging giant Twitter is reportedly facing an investigation from the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) over its dealings with third-party developers.
Multiple sources claim the commission has begun an investigation in to Twitter over issues with software developer UberMedia, although neither Twitter or the FTC have made any official statement on the matter.
Known for developing a series of popular Twitter clients and utilties, UberMedia has also found itself at odds with the company in recent months.
Earlier this year, UberMedia had its messaging applications temporarily blocked by Twitter following an undisclosed violation of the site's terms of service.
The company was rumoured to be developing its own service to rival the Twitter platform.
An investigation would not be the first time Twitter has crossed paths with the FTC. In 2010, the commission investigated the company's handling of user data in a case which was ultimately settled.
News of the Twitter investigation comes just days after the FTC began its investigation into search giant Google.
Google confirmed the commission was investigating whether the company used its dominant hold on the market to push users away from services that competed with other Google products.
