Amazon has quietly opened an online storefront selling Apple applications, despite the ongoing legal dispute between the two companies.
Amazon has sold Apple software for some time, but has started a new Mac Software Downloads section of its portal offering about 250 titles. Most applications are business based, but about a fifth are games.
The company appears to be going head to head with Apple by offering software for download more cheaply, and by selling Microsoft software for the Mac.
Amazon has been steadily beefing up its software offerings, including opening an Android application store which, unlike the Android market, checks applications thoroughly for malware infection.
Apple is currently suing Amazon for the universal rights to the phrase 'app store' after Amazon began selling software for download, and Microsoft has joined the suit against Apple. Amazon has contested Apple's case.
